Sarah Ring

I am a soprano and producer, which means I care as much about the aesthetics of the room as I do about the aria.

I want the singing to be excellent. I also want you to have a glass of wine in your hand, feel free to wear what you want, and never wonder whether you applauded in the right place. The art can be serious. Experiencing it doesn't have to be. That kind of evening is my gold standard.

Music took me from Michigan to Paris and Berlin before eventually bringing me home, after a brief stint in the South of France.

I trained at St. Olaf College and the University of Michigan before continuing at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. In Berlin, I studied, sang, and began producing. I co-founded Opera on Tap Berlin and Puccini's Toaster, finding the singers, the spaces, and the audiences for opera in tango lofts, an old silent-movie theatre, a field, and anywhere else the room made sense.

Along the way, I sang Giulietta, Dido and Laetitia. Producing draws me for the same reason singing does: both are acts of creation, and both disappear when they are over. Sometimes I build the evening; sometimes I step inside it. Sometimes I do both!

Now I live in Metro Detroit. I sing in churches, at weddings, and in concerts throughout southeast Michigan and Windsor. I produce evenings with the standards of a concert hall and the manners of a good party.
